Meditations on Isaiah 53 (Final Part-6)
Let me first say this! The GOOD NEWS in Isaiah 53 is to be read together with John 12 and Romans 10 and see everything in the right perspective. In John 11, Lazarus is raised from the dead. In John 12, Jesus talks of his own death and resurrection. Similarly, in Romans 10 there are many quotes from Isaiah when Paul explains our salvation in Christ Jesus through the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus.
In Isaiah 53, we see Jesus as God’s Righteous Servant, the Messiah, the Sin-Bearer, Peace Maker, Barrier-breaker, Gift Giver – Righteousness, Light and Riches.
6. Gospel of receiving Rich Spoil: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz
Satan in the garden of Eden took away from Adam what was rightfully man’s inheritance – riches, authority, honor and love. In believing a lie and the Liar, Adam experienced shame, rejection and fear. But in Jesus (the Truth) we have regained much more than what Adam lost!
When Isaiah was called to be a prophet to Israel, he also received a command to name his son: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz. What a long name! Yet what it literally means is “Speed the spoil; Hasten the booty”. Riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be taken.
Remember the Roman soldiers who cast lots for the dress of Jesus. That was a seamless rich dress. How could THEY take such a treasure? Because of the words of Jesus on the cross:
The answer is found in Isaiah 53.
Isaiah 53:12
Isa.53: 12 says: Therefore, I will divide Him a portion with the great. And He shall divide the spoil with the strong. Because He poured out His soul unto death, and he was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
“Father, forgive them. For they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots. (Luke 23:34).
When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive and gave gifts to men. (Eph. 4:8). As you receive the riches, remember your calling as the royal priesthood! Some as apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and some teachers. In Christ is hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col. 2: 3).
And now, the good news in Christ Jesus is that while you remain at home, you will divide the spoil. Remember Rebecca! When she was at the well, she received gifts. When she was willing to go with Abraham’s servant, her entire household received gifts. Receive the promise of God’s riches as found here…
Psalm 68: 12, 18-19:
Kings of the armies flee, they flee; and she who remains at home divides the spoil.
You have ascended on high, You have led captivity captive; You have received gifts among men, even from the rebellious, that the LORD God might dwell there.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits. The God of our salvation. Selah
